There are many different types of hair removal which all tackle body hair in different ways. Shaving slices the hair off, waxing pulls the hair out from the root and laser works to kill the follicle to stop it from growing.
These methods all provide different levels of removal too, shaving is temporary and only lasts a few days before the hair will have grown enough to be visible again. Waxing can last for several weeks as new hair must grow in, and laser can be permanent if maintained.
Laser works by using a laser or intense pulsed light to essentially destroy the hair follicle. This can prevent it from growing and over time can reduce the thickness and speed at which hair grows back.
The area is shaved before treatment, so the only hair left is under the skin. A device is then held against the skin and the laser is triggered, destroying the hair.
This can sometimes be painful or uncomfortable however this should be minimal and endurable. It is sometimes described as feeling like an elastic snapping against the skin. Your technician may apply a gel or cream to the skin to limit discomfort and help reduce redness or swelling.
You may notice redness, slight swelling or a rash in the area where you have had the treatment for a short while afterwards and
It is important to use sun cream with at least SPF 30 afterwards to protect the skin as it will be more sensitive to sunlight. This is advised for at least 4 weeks, however, it is good practice to wear sunscreen year-round, whenever you leave the house.
It’s important to remember that laser hair removal may not work for everyone. The treatment is best suited to lighter skin tones and dark hair. Those with darker skin tones or fair hair may find laser does not work well, if at all.
