Every summer throws up some new and interesting skincare trends. Some of these may be passing fads that won’t cut through to lasting treatments, but some can be valuable and help us to improve the way that we take care of our skin. Here’s a look at some of the biggest skincare trends of the year so far, and what’s worth taking notice of.
The bare-faced look
Celebrities have been causing a stir by appearing on the red carpet wearing little or no makeup. The trend was started by Pamela Aderson, who appeared at the Paris Fashion Week 2023 with an almost bare face, apart from a subtle natural gloss on her lips. The effect was amplified by a simple outfit and a casual tied back hairstyle.
The images went viral, partly because we are so used to seeing Ms Anderson photographed only when she is wearing a full face of heavy makeup, but also because of the amazing healthy natural glow of her complexion.
She is of course a naturally beautiful woman with symmetrical features, but she is in her 50s, and her smooth and radiant clean faced look was probably achieved through a combination of a healthy diet and advanced skin rejuvenation treatments such as intense pulsed light (IPL).
This involves using advanced laser treatments to correct thread veins, fine lines and wrinkles, discoloured patches, and other issues such as acne scarring. It can visibly reduce the signs of ageing, and create a flawless airbrushed appearance that reduces the need to use makeup products or have an elaborate daily skincare routine.
Holistic K-Beauty skincare
The world of skincare has fallen for the dewy charms of Korean Beauty, or K-Beauty as it is often known on social media platforms such as Tik Tok. This is a holistic approach to skincare that focuses on using natural plant-based ingredients with anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, such as ginseng, green tea, honey, and bamboo.
The K-Beauty movement went mainstream a couple of years ago, but it has since evolved into a more specific approach, rather than just a generic term to describe beauty products made in Korea. Hardcore fans will follow the 10-step routine for a perfect glassy look, but it’s possible to pick out your favourite products and experiment with what works best for you.
Personalised skincare
The relentless march of artificial intelligence leaves no stone unturned, and the world of skincare is no exception. Some brands are already using advanced AI tools to offer advanced unique skincare solutions to their customers, and we can expect to see more of this in the future.
While it may seem daunting, AI has many potential benefits including customised products that address your individual pain points, reducing wasted time and money and bringing more effective results.
